Suzanne Torguson

I received my Bachelor of Fine Art from St. Cloud State University (SCSU) winter, 2006.
My major area of focus in the arts has been ceramics and drawing. Although I never
took a painting class one of my drawing instructors told me that I drew like a painter.
So, some time after graduation when I completed my first painting I began the process
of learning to paint like I draw.

I have had work displayed in many shows beginning while I was a student. One of my
works (ceramic) was purchased for the permanent gallery at SCSU and remains on
display there. I displayed work (painting, ceramics) in many shows with an art mentoring
group that I was involved in for four years. I’ve also, more recently, had works
(sculpture) displayed at Transformation Gallery and Tattoo in Springfield and paintings
right here at the Rock Room.

Over the past ten years I’ve spent a lot of time representing other artists so I welcomed
the opportunity to contribute to the current show at the Rock Room Gallery. I was also
excited to create works based on such a wonderful, whimsical, and colorful theme. The
three works that I painted are done with acrylic paint. I used acrylic so that the drying
time would be quick and I could build layers more easily. I sincerely hope that these
works fulfill the intent that I painted with: to fill your mind with pure imagination… and
enjoyment.
